Peter P. Patcher

Peter is 65 years old and recently retired from his job as a computer manager. He spent 35 years working in a software company based in Seattle. Tomas is extremely active. He walks one hour every day and visits the gym three times a week. Also, because of his background in computers he likes to read about new technologies. Besides his interest in technology, he also likes to spend his free time working in his p-patch on Capitol Hill. He usually spends several hours during the day taking care of his vegetables. He owns tomatoes, green peppers, eggplants and some carrots. He gets very excited when he brings vegetables home from his garden to Linda, his wife. As a retired person, Tomas also enjoys traveling around the world with his wife Petunia. However, due to his love of his garden, he cannot leave the city for too long. Tomas is worried that all his vegetables will dry up or get destroyed by the raccoons. He knows that there are places like Craigslist where he can find some help in caring for his garden while he is away. However, he feels more comfortable if someone that belongs to his circle of gardening aficionados can take care of his garden while he is traveling.

Goal: Networking and Communication. Peter likes to travel during the spring and summer and sometimes he finds it hard to find help to take care of his p-patch. He thinks that the binder located at the entry of the p-patch where other members can leave messages is not very efficient. He would like to have another communication method where members can post messages to other members.

Goal: Knowledge and learning. Peter sometimes needs to research help for his vegetables. Last summer a very rare insect attacked his tomatoes. After several failed attempts for help visiting online sites, the tomatoes died due the lack of assistance. Peter wishes for a place where he can find help when he needs it.

Goal: Trade. Sometimes, Peter wishes to trade his extra strawberries for apples with other people. However, due to the lack of a communication tool among urban farmers, it is almost impossible to find others to trade.
